1I am a 4th generation immigrant. My great grandparents on my father’s side came to America from Poland, presumably during Russian occupation.

After I got married and was jumping through the hoops of getting my name changed, it dawned on me that by changing my name and my child having my husband’s name, my maiden name was being lost to the sands of time.

Now, facing an inevitable divorce on the horizon I’m faced with the decision of whether I should change my name back. The concept that I could change my name entirely hadn’t even crossed my mind, until it was suggested.

I’m not sure I even remember how to accomplish that.

On the one hand, yes it would feel good to reclaim something of my heritage. But on the other hand… that name isn’t on my birth certificate either. (IYKYN)
