As of late, you’ve got the secret service being used as censorship police to intimidate people who have used certain numbers together in social media posts, the Florida government legalizing the kidnapping of trans children, and then my husband shows me a video on Instagram of what looks like a news broadcast talking about school lockdowns… and I'm appalled.
The video seems serious at first, talking about all the steps and middle-men it takes to initiate a lock down. And then goes on to essentially say that it has been simplified. They installed what looks like a fire alarm that can be pulled in the event of a lockdown worthy emergency which is blue and contacts the police. But it also broadcasts something over the PA system. Its not a typical alarm, in fact its not an alarm at all, its a song.
The reporter, proceeded to pull the alarm and Pumped Up Kicks by Foster and the People proceeded to play over the PA.
For anyone who has either never heard the song, or never paid attention to the lyrics the lyrics are written from the perspective of someone intending to perpetrate a school shooting. “All the other kids in their pumped up kicks, better run, better run, faster than my bullets…”
Its distasteful, and feels like they are making lite of the fact that these things are a disappointing reality of the society we live in. At a time when we really don’t need any more bull shit in the news.
I really don’t have enough face palms for this day. I hope the video was a satire post, but regardless, I think I’m done with the internet for today. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow.
Protect your peace friends.
